Vardis Georgakakis, skipper & manager of 'Sun☼Sailing'

Capt. Vardis - Profile and CV marine

Vardis Georgakakis (nonsmoker) lives in Athens.  He is the manager of 'Sun☼Sailing' and professional skipper since 1986 continuously until today. Vardis has born at the island of Crete in the Eastern Mediterranean. Studies in Athens on architectural design for buildings and interior decoration, as well as a fashion designer for ready-wear clothes.

But despite his studies, the passion for sailing, for the sea and the adventure was stronger!  He got involved first with windsurfing (see below) and then he finished professional sailing courses as  skipper at 'Hellenic Offshore 'Racing Club' (H.O.R.C.)  Then he starts working as a professional skipper on yachts, sailing in Greece and Turkey.

Many years of sailing experience on the Greek Seas

He has attended a seminar on 'safety at sea' by the ‘Delphic Maritime Training Center’ and a seminar for 'Marine Communications' (VHF) at 'Hellenic Offshore Racing Club' in Athens. As a yacht skipper, he sailed almost all Greek islands of the Ionian and Aegean Sea, as far as south of Crete island (to Gavdos island).

But also along the Turkish coasts in the Aegean Sea, from Kusandasi to the Greek island 'Castellorizo', and further eastward until 'Antalya'. He has visited most European countries often to France, and one long stay in the USA.

This experienced sailor still skipper aboard 'ATLANTIS 43' a French sailboat of 13,40m in classic hull, well-chosen for the local conditions of the Greek seas.  Capt. Vardis is also a lover of culture and of the ancient history of Greece, he will guides you with pleasure on the Islands.

130 miles solo adventure on a windsurf !!

In August of 1982, Vardis reached his limits. Starting from Athens, he has sailed all alone on his windsurf (TEN GATE 39), all the SARONIC islands, (Aegina, Methane, Poros, Hydra, Spetses). From Spetses island he sailed offshore 20 miles nonstop, to South-East coasts of Peloponnese  directly to 'Kyparissi' port, then along the Eastern coasts finally ending at Monemvasia port: 130 miles in 9 days without any accompaniment!  Very useful experience for his future career as a yacht skipper on board of   'Atlantis 43'.  Follow him on FB
