Crete is the largest island in Greece, approximately in the center of the eastern Mediterranean. With a length of about 350 km, a width of about 75 km, and snow-capped mountains of 2,500 meters, it borders the Aegean Sea with the Mediterranean. It is the cradle of the Minoan civilization, the largest naval force in the Mediterranean before the classical period of Greece. The most important cities lie on the North and are: Chania, Rethymnon, Heraclion, Agios Nicolaos.
